THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Office of the Mayor is seeking an experienced and collaborative communications professional to serve as Media Relations Manager. Individual will plan and execute proactive engagement with the media. This includes developing plans for public announcements and press conferences, and creating run of show documents, briefings, pitches, news releases, media alerts, talking points, and supporting material. The individual in this role will also field media requests made to the Mayors Office; lead the Mayors Office response to public information requests; develop talking points in response to news of the day; and track media mentions and accomplishments.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience working daily with members of the media.
  • Exceptional writing abilities across formats, particularly talking points, press releases. and bylined articles, including strong familiarity with AP Style.
  • Experience counseling senior executives on communications strategy.
  • Crisis communications experience.
  • Experience creating and maintaining website content within a CMS system.
  • Able to work collaboratively within a large organization.
  • Comfort working on short deadlines in order to support members of the media working on deadline.
  • 10+ years in public relations or marketing agencies preferred.

Under general direction, is responsible for the development and coordination of special projects or programs initiated in the Mayors Office; performs related duties as required.
